Challenge
Sun sought to garner employee support for Sun’s Vision, Mission and Values and a new four-pronged company strategy for market success.   It also aimed to focus staff on company priorities, engender pride and motivation to achieve.

Solution
n2n’s role included development of tailored key messages and materials for each department to support the goal of motivating employees. It also included the development and production of a range of activities and tools in order to roll-out the program including:

  • Strategic advice and communication counsel on segmenting target audiences, strategy development, monitoring and evaluation
  • Writing, editing and designing materials (including intranet content) for staff incorporating key messages
  • Development of customer case studies for use by employees to promote vision, mission and values to external audiences
  • Town Hall meetings in every state of Australia and NZ to kick-off each quarter with a face-to-face presentation by local and global executives to all employees.  n2n communications provided:

    • Celebrity guest scripts
    • Employee invites
    • Visual materials to be used in management presentations
  • Internal training materials for staff that incorporate vision, mission and values
  • Collateral for the Intranet:
    • Customer case studies of strategy in action
    • Posters and resources for staff that integrate vision, mission and values to external communication

Result
Communication at Sun Microsystems improved markedly as measured by the annual ‘Power of Sun; staff survey that assessed the general satisfaction with communication and effectiveness of managers as communicators.
