It’s ironic that after an incredibly busy week, and one during which I believe our business has produced lots of great results for clients, that I read this article from the CIO of a global company on organisations not having structures to operate fast.
We are a smallish company with lots to learn but here are a few ways we go fast…
- Create a culture of improvement – we spend a lot of time praising people in our firm who do great things. This public endorsement means everyone learns what good ‘looks like’ and they focus on replicating these results. Consequently everyone spends less time on tasks that don’t add value.
- Stand up meetings – nothing gets a meeting completed more quickly than standing up. In our business we’ve even been known to host meetings and brainstorms standing in the park – anything to get us away from chairs. Thanks to Ken Hudson from Speed Thinking for this idea.
- Use best practice technologies – we are a small company but constantly look for the latest techniques and tools. We have developed our proprietary software to manage media features and we use the latest cloud based software for our time recording, payroll and accounts. These all save us time.
- Dedicate people to improvement – we have a group of our best people who constantly look for new ways to do things faster and better. Their ideas are often simple but brilliant and we all enjoy implementing them as we strive to become more efficient.
- Track your time – being a service company that sells ‘time’ we track every minute. Nothing keeps you focused more than a budget and a ticking clock. If you want to go fast, track what you do. You will see a lot of your day is spent on tasks you didn’t need to do.
What are your tips?
